Foreign Policy Initiatives

Hillary Clintons foreign policy initiatives are largely economic or healthcare based in nature. A recent initiative announced by Secretary Clinton is a program that will become the centerpiece of this administrations foreign policy. The new program is known as the Global Health Initiative. According to Clinton, 63 billion dollars will be spent by the United States government to prevent pregnancies and promote “family planning” services around the world over the next 6 years. This program is committed to improving global health by reducing infant and maternal mortality rates and decrease HIV infection rates.

Given the state of the worldwide economies, Secretary Clinton has also focused much of her foreign policy iniatives around the economy. Secretary Clinton has highlighted the United States’ need to advance relations with the rest of the world in order to revive the American domestic economy.

She also stresses the fact that United State diplomats and others tied to foreign policy need to further understand how market forces influence first-order national security challenges in places such as Afghanistan, Iraq, and Iran. Clinton also states the importance of economic diplomacy in issues such as energy security and job creation. She goes on to say that the U.S. needs a “level playing field” on trade to oppose what the administration in Washington believes are unfair benefits that have helped China and other similar economies to grow so quickly. Finally, Clinton highlights America’s past economic successes were built on strong relationships with countries across the Atlantic in Europe. According to Clinton, the United States will need to build the same type of commitments and relationships only this time across the Pacific with countries in Asia, the Middle East, and North Africa. Clinton’s belief is that the U.S. should aid other countries in finding economic solutions to strategic challenges and integrate regional economies, promote investment, and assist in economic modernization.
