Health Care
Hillary Clintons stance on health care has been made very clear. In 1993, she made an attempt at passing a uniform, universal health care proposal but it failed. Again in 2007 during her presidential campaign she proposed her own plan. The two parts of the new system were to 1) require every individual carry some kind of insurance and 2) reducing the cost of that insurance.
The first and main part of her proposal provided that every American have health insurance similar to the way insurance is required for all drivers. Since many Americans are either out of work or unhappy with the coverage they have, part of her proposal provides for subsidies that will help people get the right plan and be able to afford it. As part of the individual mandate, employers would be required to provide coverage to its employees. A tax subsidy would also be offered to small businesses that cannot afford to provide benefits to all their employees on their own.
The other part of her proposal would help make insurance costs cheaper for all people to afford. This would open up the market to competition, which would lower costs even further, and give people options between different providers and plans. In addition to lowering the costs, Clintons goal was to improve the quality of health care as well. This would mean lowering wait times in emergency rooms, making doctors more available for visits, and having a better system for choosing the provider you feel is best.
Many people disagreed with this proposal for a couple reasons. Many felt it was not up to the government to require every individual to carry health insurance, and that this would become a large burden on lower income families. Other opponents argue that its 110 billion dollar cost on the government isnt affordable at this moment.
